The Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard from Gibson USA is an elegant revision of the classic solid-body single-cut electric guitar with upgrades and new features that make this the best Gibson Les Paul model ever produced.
New features of the Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard include a new asymmetrical neck profile that makes it one of the most comfortable and playable necks ever offered on any guitar. The neck also features an enlarged neck tenon for maximum wood contact between the neck and body guaranteeing increased stability and superb transfer of vibration for enhanced tone, locking Grover tuners which are a first for the Gibson Les Paul with an improved gear ratio of 18:1 and making string changes a snap. All newly designed controls, including custom-made, gold-plated potentiometers made by Bourns give the Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard a new level of sonic clarity and intensity. Other new features include TonePros' locking Nashville Tune-o-matic and stopbar tailpiece in chrome finish and strap lock buttons. The Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard electric guitar features a hand-carved figured maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding.
The BurstBucker Pro pickups used in the Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard electric guitar add Alnico 5 magnets to the original BurstBucker design, which captured the subtle variations in true humbucker tone thanks to historically accurate "unmatched" bobbins. Used in the bridge position, the BurstBucker Pro delivers rich, smooth low end response along with a complex, satisfying midrange crunch. Burstbucker Pro pickups sound great clean or they can be used to push your amp into overdrive for the fat deep sound you can only get with a humbucker. All BurstBucker Pro pickups are wax potted to minimize feedback and noise.
Gibson BurstBucker pickups replicate the sound of Gibson's original Patent Applied For pickups. Like the originals, with unpolished magnets and non-potted coils, variations in pickup output and tone also came from inconsistencies in winding the bobbins, a result of the lack of automatic shutoffs on Gibson's winding machines in the late 1950s.
The Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard electric guitar is set up on the Plek machine. The Plek is a German-made, computer-controlled machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string, and then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This process does in minutes what it takes a luthier several hours to accomplish. Every fret is accurately aligned, and the guitar is properly intonated, leaving the instrument Plek'd and amazingly playable.
To give you a choice of how your Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard guitar should look, the pickguard is not attached but included in the case. To install the pickguard, holes will need to be drilled into the guitar's body.
